The rod was very beat up, with several broken guides and a finish that was only half there.

OK, He wanted a water dragon theme and it to pop. So I gave him 85% metallic thread with a chevron pattern to look like dragon scales with custom grips. He loved it! Im happy even if i made $3 bucks an hour on this one.

possible problem with mfg.

I had bought a supply of epoxy and other goods all made by the same mgf. from a dealer. Shortly after that I ran into problems with a portion of the epoxy and contacted the dealer to see about a replacement. They said to contact the mfg. as they were no longer dealing with her products or could not get them any longer or something. I have spent the better part of three weeks making phone calls and sending E-mails to this mfg. but have yet to receive a single response. I know the E-mail is good because they are not bouncing back. The phone message still has her recording so it has not been disconnected. If this was just a few dollars worth of product I would not waste any time on it but it amounts to what for me is a significant investment. I have heard all sorts of rumors about legal troubles forcing this mfg. out of business or bankruptcy, etcetera. I have not seen anything like that appear in public so I wrote it off to just being rumors. But I cannot get any direct communication going so I have begun to wonder whats up. Do any of you know any way to find out if a mfg. or company is still in business? Do any states maintain a contact listing of businesses that are operational? Not sure what to do. theres still alot of guys out there who are using large penn reels and some other types of big game reels that require a reel brace..and they dont want there reel brace to dig in to the fore grip or they dont want the reel seat on backwards..

i get alot of questions from guys that want to know where i get my large size reel blocks, or tuna blocks.. witchever you perfer to call them..

there are not many companies who make them to fit some of the large diameter blanks or offer them in colors.. so i came up with a simple solution to fix this problem..

so heres my tutorial on how barretts does reel brace blocks!!!!


here is a quick over veiw on how i do it...

i basiclly cut the end off a gimble and glue it on the front of the reel seat..

thats it... heres the steps and how i make it happen.....


step 1: order a gimble that will match the diameter reel seat that you are working with.. in this case i am useing a #4 aftco reel seat and will be modifiying a #3 aftco gimble to fit..

step 2: i then wrap the gimble with a peice of tape to protect the gimble from scratchs while i cut it..i use a band saw to cut this gimble but feel free to use what ever tool you feel comforable useing.. i have used a dremel,chopsaw or bandsaw these all work great.. please be carfull!!!










step#3:after cutting i then sand off all the sharp edges and debur the cut end..








step#4: when i made the arbors for glueing on my reel seat i left the front arbor hanging out so i will have a small arbor to support the brace block..









step#5: next test fit the block so it fits snug over the arbor as in the same way you fit a reel seat.. remove some tape if needed. i then mark the front of the block so i have a location to for a second arbor..next make a second arbor to support the front of the block. i leave the arbor sticking out so i have more of the blank exposed for the epoxy to grab to..









step #6:mix up some 2 part epoxy and aply the epoxy and glue on the block the same way you would glue a reel seat..







step #7:after the block is glued in place i them go ahead and clean up all the extra glue that i just made a mess with.. very messy..i will also go ahead and trim the front arbor that is sticking out and prepare to install my front grip..













step #8: go ahead and install your fore grip and glue it place as you normally would.. the grip will help keep pressure on the block while it all dries in place..






heres my finished reel brace block in place..came out very nice..
